SWIMMING

Swim Lessons

Water safety is of utmost importance to us at the Y. Each year countless injuries occur as a result of an individual’s inability to swim, it’s our prerogative to ensure the safety of our community when enjoying themselves near water by making swimming lessons always available and affordable. While the schedule changes each year, our lessons are always ongoing. Follow this link to the 2013 Swim Lesson Flyer.

What are the FEES?

All lessons are $35 for members and $65 for non-members. Scholarships are also available.

What do lessons LOOK like?

Each lesson includes 10 teaching sessions spread over a period of either 10 weeks, 5 weeks, or in the summer, 2 weeks. We offer lessons for adults, children ages 3-14, and a Parent Tot class for ages 6 mo - 3 yrs.

A minimum of 8 participants must be signed up for the classes to run and cancellations will/can be made at the discretion of the YMCA staff. Our instructors are knowledgeable and friendly and ready to help you and your child be prepared to have the most fun possible in the water.

Levels

Each participant will be evaluated and placed in a starting level upon entering the lessons. As participants improve they may progress in levels as well. Instructors will pay close attention in order to graduate participants through to the next level. Typically a level is achieved each lesson (set of 10 sessions).

Parent / Tot (6 months-3 years)

The objective of this class is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water The child explores a new environment while the parent learns how to teach the child to be safer in and around the water. Classes are designed so the child has fun while the parent urges him or her to learn aquatic skills. The child will be exposed to games that use basic movements in the water, such as kicking, arm strokes and breath control.
